He replied, “I am a fulltime translator but also do pro bono work teaching on weekends”.

• What first fascinated him towards a career in translation?

He told us, “I began reviewing translations as part of my job at a publishing company and eventually started translating some projects before becoming a fulltime translator”.

• How does he keep his language skills up to date?

Translator replied, “I am a compulsive reader, devouring everything from newspapers to the last novel published.

• What is the best part of being a professional translator?

Great thing about this profession is that you get to decide what you want to work on and who you work for.

• And what’s the worst part?

According to him, there are not many bad things, but what bother him a bit are short deadlines and when too many clients need work at the same time.  

• How does he find translation clients? 

He answered, “Nowadays, I don’t have to search for clients. But when I was a freelancer, I used proz.com and translatorscafe.com to find agency clients. And I have had the same regular clients for more than seven years. Every now and then, a new client appears but I don't search for them”. He likes to stick to the client base unless the client disappears.

• Hardest task he has ever completed and why?

He replied, “Long ago I accepted, and never did it again, a job to translate a will, that ended being a photocopy of a handwritten document that was almost impossible to read”.
